Offering online support through teleconferencing software such as Zoom or Microsoft teams as well as our own social media channels Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Offering telephone emotional and wellbeing support including using software such as text relay support for deaf and hard of hearing users.
Offering face-to-face community support to a disabled person such as going for a walk, or meeting for a coffee and a chat with their buddy through to trips to the cinema, to the theatre, attending concerts, football matches or any other social activity. The choice is down to the disabled person themselves.
The name Buddies for All means that both disabled people and non-disabled people can come together to support each other. A disabled person can be supported by a non-disabled person, likewise a non-disabled person can be supported by a disabled person. Mostly importantly Buddies for All strives to offer peer-to-peer buddying meaning disabled people are able to offer support and advice to each other on the phone, via video conferencing or face to face. Buddies for All is not a care agency. We do not provide carers and our volunteers are unable to provide any help with personal care when meeting face-to-face. This includes support with medication or any financial support. To be clear Buddies is there to support someone with their socialisation. Therefore, anyone with personal care needs who cannot support themselves whilst out with a buddy should be accompanied by a personal assistant or carer to offer support with their personal care needs at this time.
The community will benefit from online and telephone support reducing their potential loneliness, social isolation, anxiety, and depression, leading to an increase in their physical, sensory, and mental wellbeing. This will result in service users no longer feeling excluded or isolated in the community, feeling valued, being able to better contribute to society and reaching their full potential. Increased interaction with their buddies will lead to better physical, sensory, and mental wellbeing, giving disabled people the confidence to tackle the daily challenges they experience as a result of their impairments. This renewed confidence will also allow them to focus on living their best lives, as opposed to thinking about the additional challenges they face compared with their non-disabled peers.
The community will also benefit from Face-to-Face support by being able to access the local community such as going to the park, to the cinema, to a concert or on a day trip. This will again alleviate any anxiety or depression a service user might be experiencing. Additionally, this will improve the mental, sensory, and physical health of the service user. This could improve the wellbeing of someone with a physical disability as the buddy could offer support with the weekly shop or a household chore such as changing a lightbulb. This will allow the disabled person to overcome the daily challenges they face and give them the confidence to make new friends and reach their potential.
If the company makes any surplus it will be used for the continued investment and growth of Buddies for All as an organisation. The service will initially begin in one or two South London boroughs and then expanded further. Surpluses will be used to pay for promotional materials such as leaflets, flyers, and posters. They will also be used to cover staff and equipment such as travelling to and from meetings for new business or investing in laptops or website development. Investment in the maintenance and growth of online platforms and teleconferencing services particularly when new and innovative advancements come to market will be reviewed regularly. Additionally, as the organisation grows, it is hoped that Buddies for All will be able to invest in a text relay system for deaf users or those who have speech challenges. Finally, surpluses will be spent to cover the travel expenses of volunteer buddies as the face-to-face service develops.
