Buddies for All launching late 2021, is about finding buddies for disabled people in and around South East London. It's aim is to help disabled people overcome social isolation. This will be achieved by offering online, telephone and face-to-face support (when safe to do so) via a volunteer buddy.
To develop a buddying service for disabled people, thereby, creating a world where every disabled person is able to find a buddy to help them overcome life’s daily challenges, whatever they may be.
To provide a buddying service for disabled people, which enhances the physical and mental wellbeing of the people we serve, by connecting them with friendship buddies.
To help a disabled person find a buddy therefore alleviating the stress and anxiety they may face in their daily lives.
To provide online or telephone support where disabled people can openly discuss the issues they are facing in their lives, with buddies finding practical solutions of how to overcome these.
To support disabled people to access their community such as trips to the park, cinema, social events or undertaking the weekly shop.
Buddies for All founder David Bourroughs was born with cerebral palsy, is a wheelchair user, and has recently developed high frequency hearing loss.
He also has experienced challenges with his mental health due to the 2020/21 Covid-19 lockdowns and living alone, thereby like many others he recognises the effects of social isolation.
He has a First Class BA (Hons) degree in advertising and digital marketing communications from the University of Greenwich. Additionally, with a professional career surpassing a decade, extensively covering all sectors of commerce – Private, Public & Charitable, he has expertise in operational management, business communications, content management systems, supporter development and editorial direction.
His ability to operate across multi-disciplinary projects stems from the wearing of many hats during his professional career – researcher, data analyst, marketer, campaign management and the implementation of social care plans and budgets.
These experiences have equipped him with key attributes that are at the core thrust of his ambitious character making him highly motivated, hugely determined, a fast learner, with excellent communication skills and a strong team player. This showcases his undoubted ability to run a community led business.
